One of the World and Brazilian football legend a great striker Luiz Nazario de Lima Ronaldo has confirmed his retirement from football, at the age of 34-year-old. Ronaldo who enjoyed a glittering career in football, in Spain, Holland, Italy and Brazil has finally quit soccer. Ronaldo help Brazil to won two World Cups and he was named by FIFA as World player of the year in 1996, 1997 and 2002. He had been expected to quit at the end of the season but the early elimination of his club, Corinthians, from the Copa Libertadores brought forward the date. Ronaldo said, “I wanted to continue, but I can’t. I think of an action, but I can’t do it the way I want to. It’s time. I’m closing my career as a professional player.”

“I want to stay but I can’t. I think of a move but I can’t perform it as I want to. My body aches. The head wants to continue but the body can’t take much more. It was a very beautiful career, wonderful and exciting. There were a lot of defeats and a lot of victories. I made a lot of friends and I can’t recall any enemies. I’m ending my career due to some very important reasons.”

Ronaldo’s career took him to some of Europe’s top clubs; he joined PSV Eindhoven from Cruzeiro in 1994. He spent just a year at Barcelona, scoring 47 goals in 49 games and becoming the youngest player ever to win the FIFA World player of the year award.

He join Inter Milan for a then world-record fee of £19 million, because of the ways he score goal, despite more injury problems to his career, his success continued at Inter Milan before a switch to Barcelona great rivals Real Madrid where he spend most of his career.

Ronaldo Golden Ball and The Best Player Fifa

Ronaldo also play in AC Milan in 2007 but after suffering a third serious injury to the knee, he returned home to play in the Brazil local league in 2009. Ronaldo will be best remembered at the World level, for his international career and impact, scoring a record total of 15 goals at three FIFA World Cups finals. He scored eight goals in the 2002 FIFA World cup in Japan and South Korea alone, including both goals in the 2-0 final victory over Germany.

Chelsea newly sign Fernando Torres has promised to repay Roman Abramovich with goals for sealing his £50 million move to Chelsea from Liverpool within 48 hours; Torres refers to the move as “beautiful”.

The Spanish international, had an awful debut against former club Liverpool some days ago. He was unable to score any goal n is debut, I hope Torre have put that behind him and he is ready to score goals for Chelsea in other to justify the big money Roman spend on him.

All eye will be on Torre tonight in the match between Chelsea and Fulham, I hope he will put mile in the Blues owner eye.

Torres was report to have said: “As a striker I’m asked for goals so I’ll pay in goals. I still haven’t seen Roman Abramovich. To put so much money down for me speaks of his dreams to keep on making history. We want to repay him for this effort. I have to pay my debt on the pitch. It’s beautiful he paid so much for me. When the season started I expected to play a lot to forget about my injuries. But Liverpool didn’t start well.

“There was no light at the end of the tunnel. An incredible door opened for me when there was six months of fight ahead of me. Now I can fight for what I’ve always dream about fighting for.”

Torres think Liverpool fans should have forgiven him by the time he visits Anfield in Chelsea blue shirt, but memory is still fresh in their heart.

Torres added: “People on the outside can’t understand some things about football. The problem was that when Xabi Alonso and then Javier Mascherano left I could only see a light at the end of the tunnel when Chelsea opened the door. It just happened that my time came to leave. In time I hope Liverpool fans understand. I would like to return to Liverpool and be recognised. I only have gratitude towards the people, the club and everybody in Liverpool.”

The ex-Togolese international Emmanuel Adebayor is very happy with the impact “the special one” Jose Mourinho has had on his game since his loan deal to Spanish giant Real Madrid last month.

The former Manchester City striker moved to the Spanish capital in the January window transfer last month in a deal that will run to the end of the season. The La Liga giants will then have an option whether to sign the Manchester City ace on a permanent basis or not.

Emmanuel Adebayor, who had been having problem with her manager Roberto Mancini at Manchester City, has already scored twice for his new club Real Madrid, he score in her debut with Sevilla after coming from the bench in second half to make the score line 2 – 0 and he also netting in the game against Real Sociedad which Real Madrid also win.

Adebayor told the press conference in Madrid, “I’m very happy for scoring two goals, I will work hard every day to help win our games. It is very easy to work with Mourinho. He is an excellent person and he enhances my game. He has his own way of dealing with people. He tells you what he expects you to do.”

“I want to thank my team-mates for helping me adapt so easily to this league championship. Granero, Ramos, Ronaldo, Pepe, Marcelo… They all speak English, so they understand me and I understand them. I am very happy to be here.”

Emmanuel Adebayor and new team mates

Real Madrid is seven points behind leaders Barcelona in the Spanish league, but Adebayor vowed: “We will fight to the end to win every title.”

It is likely Adebayor seal a permanent move with Spain giant Real Madrid, if the report from Spain is anywhere to go by, an agreement worth £15.3m had already been struck between the two clubs. This is going to cause a significant loss for the player signed by Mark Hughes for £25m in the summer of 2009 from Arsenal FC.

I understood that Manchester City have received £1.7m as a fee for the loan, and will get another £1.7m if Adebayor helps Real Madrid win the Champions League. Then in the summer, Real Madrid can make the deal permanent with an extra £11.9m to make the deal permanently.

Bruce Buck Chelsea Chairman also added the following comment: ‘It is a delight to have completed this transfer for a fantastic young footballer who we have admired for some time. David has played in the Champions League and the squad now has a more experienced look to it that will hopefully serve us well for the rest of this season and going forward.’

Chelsea Football Club is delighted and have finally complete and announce the signing of Fernando Torres from Livepool on a five-and-a-half year contract, on a British record fee of £50m. The deal tying him to the Blues until the summer of 2016 worth £8m a year. The cash-only deal was given the go-ahead by Livepool boss Kenny Dalglish after the Reds reached agreement with Newcastle striker Andy Carroll for a move of £35m.

Torres passed the medical check up at Chelsea’s Cobham training HQ tonight and will be unveiled later this week. Roman Abramovich hopes that the Spanish hitman, World Cup and European Championship winner Torres can help deliver the Champions League triumph he craves.

The deal exceeds the amount Manchester City forked out to sign Robinho from Real Madrid in August 2008 which is £32.5m.
Speaking at Stamford Bridge after finalising the move, Torres said: ‘I am very happy with my transfer to Chelsea and I am looking forward very much to helping my new team-mates this season and for many years to come.
‘Having played against Chelsea many times since coming to England, and in some very big games I will never forget, I know there are many great players here and I will work hard to win a place in the team. I hope I can score some important goals for the supporters to enjoy this season.’

Bruce Buck, Chelsea chairman said: ‘This is a very significant day for Chelsea, capturing one of the best players in the world with his peak years ahead of him. We have long admired the talents of a player who is a proven goalscorer in English football and Fernando’s arrival is a sign of our continuing high ambitious. I hope every Chelsea fan is as excited as I am with this news.’

Chief executive of Chelsea Ron Gourlay added: ‘Signing a player of the stature of Fernando Torres benefits the club on many levels. Carlo Ancelotti was keen to add his talents to the squad as we continue our quest for three trophies this season, we are delighted we have succeed with that wish, and this signing will undoubtedly aid the club in realising our worldwide potential.’

The Spanish hitman net 65 goals in 102 league appearances for Liverpool and 81 in 142 games in all competitions.
He moved to the Premier League t the age of 23 years, having spent the previous 12 years at Atletico Madrid, a club based a few miles from the town of his birth on the outskirts of the capital city. At Atletico Madridwas his was the club’s youngest player and youngest captain. His debut came at the age of 17 years and he took the armband two years later.
His first full season was a quiet start with just six goals from 36 league appearances but that became 13 from 29 games the next year and the 20-goal mark was reached in 2003/04, Torres’s most prolific season in Spain and the year of his debut for the national side. Torer was subsequent emergence on the international stage after he net 75 goals in 174 Spanish top-flight games meant many clubs across Europe were after his signature but he chose to work under compatriot nd country-man Rafael Benitez at Liverpool.

This is the best Chelsea signed of the season, there is no doubt that Torres is a very, very good player and it will be interesting to see how Chelsea Manager Carlo Ancelotti will use him. Pairing him with Didier Drogba might work but Drogba has not exactly set the world on fire since the begining of this season. I’ve got the feeling that the arrival of Torres might mean his time at Stamford Bridge is almost up. He is one of quite a few Chelsea players who look like they might be in their last season with the club and he is at the age now where he might be thinking about making one final big-money move himself. I hope the club will real move up with the two new signed in today.

Russia has managed to pip other nations in securing the right to be the proud host of the 2018 World Cup final. The bid submitted by the country helped it get the maximum votes from the 22 executive members who run FIFA. This secret ballot was held in Zurich.

There were three other bidders in Spain-Portugal, England and Holland-Belgium. The selection process was a multiple round voting affair and countries that got the least votes at the end of each round got eliminated. Considering that 15 bids were on offer from countries wishing to play host to this prestigious event in 2018, the fact that Russia could secure a majority amidst such competition is indeed praiseworthy. Russia got 9 and 13 votes in the two rounds of voting that took place. Next was the Spain-Portugal bid that only got 7 votes.

FIFA World Cup Hosting Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022

This tournament would be played in 13 cities in Russia and would be within the European region so that travelling is not a problem for any of the countries participating. The one clinching factor in Russia’s favor was its promise to do away with the system of visas.

Coming to the 2022 World Cup, the same ballot selected Qatar to be the host for the 2022 event. This oil-rich country won its bid against competition from South Korea, United States and Japan. Australia though was knocked off after the first round itself and Mexico backed out of its bid.

The fact that these countries have been awarded the rights to host the events has however not settled the controversy that had arisen about the voting process itself, which ultimately made two of the executive members in the committee to submit their resignation. These officials were accused of some wrongdoing in the form of accepting bribes and though a full-fledged investigation will take place, they were made to step down in the interim to facilitate the smooth conduct of the bidding process.

The delay in the investigation due to some bureaucratic process has not helped the controversy to die down and with the United States losing its bid to Qatar; soccer fans are demanding a thorough probe into the accusations. The entire controversy began when Sunday Times did an expose and revealed that two of the officials Amos Adamu and Reynald Temarii asked for some money in order to get some projects executed.

Initially there were many rules set and associated with this game what we call today is football including two different types of goal posts emerged among one was made by setting up posts with a net placed between them while the other required just one goal post placed in the middle of the field the players play manager game. The first sets of modern rules implemented were known as the Cambridge rules but none of these rules exists now in any of its shape.

Previously, Players were only allowed to handle in case they want to catch the ball for making a free kick. Moreover, there was a primitive offside rule, which disallowed players from “loitering” around the opponents’ goal. In 1850s the Sheffield rules were introduced. Offside rule was one among that was significantly different kind of rule back then. The Melbourne football rules were the set of rules that were widely distributed and gradually adopted by the other Victorian clubs at that time. Lately, the NRFU rules had become divergent from the RFU, most notably with the abolition of the line-out.

The English Football Association Cup fixtures is taking place in various city across England this weekend, Chelsea is keeping a date with Ipswich Town. We all know that Chelsea is coming from a poor show of form recently in their Premier League match’s; Chelsea will do well to rekindle confidence in their teeming fans by not only nailing Ipswich Town on Sunday, but go ahead to retain the FA Cup they won last year.

English FA Cup

Millwall will be testing their might against Premier League side Birmingham City to advance to the next stage of the competition, compatriot and West Ham’s, will be aiming to salvage team’s prestige by piloting a splendid performance as they host English Championship side Barnsley. After the embarrassing defeat of West Ham’s at St James’ Park, Manager Avran Grant has demanded his players respond with a win against the lower division side Barnsley. The manager told the club’s website: “We are confident in ourselves because we know the football we are capable of playing and that we can take points. We did well in difficult games recently away to Blackburn Rovers and Fulham and you can see this week how good those results were. I am sure we will get back to that form quickly. We will stay positive. We know not to judge things on one performance. We have bounced back before after difficult results and this will be the case. I don’t like how we played but we know this can happen.” Grant is not likely to take any risks in this competition given what is at stake. Don’t expect him to rest many of his better player, but he could reshuffle the after the defeat to Newcastle, with Zavon Hines, Victor Obinna and Valon Behrami all expected to be recalled to the starting XI. But Barnsley Manager Robins is confident his side can cause a big upset this weekend by knocking West Ham out of the competition. He told the club’s website: “We have no problems going into this game. This is a great game for us and it is a break from the league and one we are relishing. We are the underdogs. We are going to a Premier League and they have got quality throughout their squad. They will be hurting from last night and we could face a backlash on Saturday, but we know we are a decent side and we are looking forward to it.”

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFA) has named Samson Siasia as their new manager, the 43-year-old former Super Eagles striker was chosen ahead of Stephen Keshi by the Nigeria Football Federation’s technical committee. The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation rose from its emergency meeting last night after receiving the result of the interview conducted by the NFF Technical Committee on the recruitment of a new coach for the Super Eagles to announce Siasia as the new Manager of the Super Eagle of Nigeria.

Nigeria Super Eagles Manager - Samson Siasia

Both formal international Siasia and Keshi were the only two people short listed for the interview by the NFF Technical Committee headed by Chris Green. When announcing Samson Siasia as the new Super Eagles manager, Green said the NFF executive committee after a careful and painstaking deliberation, accepted the recommendation of the Technical committee that Siasia be appointed as the manager of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Green however stated that the comprehensive contract and coach package would be release next week Wednesday, he also added that the NFF would attach a coach to Siasia for exposure. “We don’t want to get hard and dry in case of any eventuality, which was why we have decided to attach a coach to Siasia”, said Chris Green.

Samson Siasia is the most favorable for the position, having won the 2005 African Youth Championship, took his team to the FIFA Under-20 World Cup final in 2005 where they were beat by Argentina in the final. He was also an assistant coach for the senior team one time, Siasia also took Nigeria to the 2008 Olympic Games final where Argentina once again beat them in the final.

Ironically, Keshi enjoyed support from former colleagues who thought he deserved the job having worked wonders when qualifying Togo for the 2006 World Cup, even though he was dismissed before the finals. With the appointment of Samson Siasia has the Eagles Manager, I hope he can return Nigeria Super Eagles team to there gory days in football in Africa and the world at large.
